The
Center concentrates all the activities for the production of the radio
broadcasts. This includes the elaboration and daily live broadcasts
of, programs focusing on specific topics and educational campaigns.
The first action taken by CEMINA was the production of the radio program
“Women Speak Up”, broadcasted daily through the radio
station Guanabara, in Rio de Janeiro, between 1990 and 2001.
Elaborated
in a dynamic way, the program focused on giving visibility to women’s
actions in society. Through the use of their own voices they illustrate
the way they have occupied spaces in the public arena, articulating
new projects and strategies to solve problems, and highlighting
their entrepreneurship in cultural actions and in their own enterprises.
The program is conceived not only as a way to raise the voice of
women, but also to promote debates about themes showing the current
social inequalities, mainly in terms of gender and human rights.
The
radio program Women Speak Up has become a well-known part of CEMINA,
although since 1992, its team has also been involved, in the elaboration
of special radio educational programs and campaigns about women’s
health, sexual and reproductive rights, STD’s/AIDS, breast
feeding, violence against women, and the environment and human rights.
All these progams have been distributed to radio stations throughout
the country.
In
partnership with international development agencies such as UNIFEM
and UNICEF, campaigns have been organized to promote awareness of
the recommendations issued from important key Conferences promoted
by the United Nations.
